



via National Geographic: San Francisco Bay's Pier 31 is the birthplace of the Plastiki, the innovative, impossible catamaran of eco-adventurer David de Rothschild. The 60-foot plastic-bottle boat will depart this spring to sail some 11,000 miles to Sydney. With a deckside vegetable garden, solar and wind power, and other green "surprises," the Plastiki is at the leading edge of sustainable technologies.
