one long funeral song

The Art Syndicate curated a great show that opens this Friday at Space 1026. "One Long Funeral Song" features collaborative works by San Francisco Bay area artists, Monica Canilao and Kyle Ranson.
The artists sum up the idea of the show this way,
“One Long Funeral Song” addresses the clashes and minglings of two magicks. the black, vampiric conjurings of colonialism and the nature magic of indigenous, poor and creative peoples… the contrast between secret societies and open-armed, cooperitive communities. Monica Canilao and Kyle Ranson build a world around the hope that perhaps a third and beautiful magick could be born from this long and bloodied struggle.

which is which

Jan Dibbits is associated with the land art and conceptual art movements of the 1960s and 70s and holds an international reputation. His oeuvre is primarily concerned with light, observation, perspective, and space. Using string or tape on a flat surface, Dibbets forms a square or rectangle to exploit the illusion of perspective that is created by a camera. This then creates a second illusion of the square simultaneously existing off and out of the picture plane.—Wikipedia

Souther Salazar was born in 1978 in Hayward, CA. As a teenager in the early 1990’s, Salazar made photocopied cut-and-paste minicomics and ‘zines in his bedroom in rural Oakdale. His artwork reinterprets the world, making it into a mythical place full of carnivals, lost cities, giant insects, dinosaurs, and a variety of other creatures.
